What People Are Saying

Tunde Csoban (PhD Student, Hungary)

Going to university can be a very isolating time for many people, especially those who are moving away from friends and family for the first time. I initially joined Hear to Listen because I was very lonely when I started my undergraduate course, and a service like this would have been so useful to me, but during my PhD I have also noticed many students who were struggling with the same feelings. Joining the team and completing the Science of Happiness training have been amazing experiences.. I think Hear to Listen is very close to the hearts of many of us Listeners because we collectively shaped it into what we saw our peers needed the most.

~ UK House of Parliament ~ (motion passed 3/21/2022)

This House…welcomes the collaboration between the service and the Pursuit of Happiness project, based in New York, an initiative of a group of psychologists and educators dedicated to the advancement of scientific knowledge about happiness and depression prevention, with the volunteers being the first students from a university in Scotland to undertake training (the Science of Happiness Course) by the project.

Sophie Donnelly (4th year student, Northern Ireland)

I feel that the Hear to Listen project and Science of Happiness training have been of huge benefit to students' mental wellbeing in more ways than one. I know that students who have come along for a chat, in person or online, have found it to be really valuable and supportive. As a volunteer, I feel that working on the project has benefitted my own mental health and I'm certain that other volunteers feel the same.

Certificate of Completion

Students who complete the course will receive a signed "Certificate of Proficiency" verifying familiarity with the contents.
